Late of the Pier

Words by Karley Sciortino

What do you get when you combine four barely-legal weirdos with a love for art cinema, electronic music, and guided meditation? You get Nottingham’s latest creation- schizo-rockers Late of the Pier. Meet Samuel Dust, Jack Paradise, Rouge Dog Consuela and Francis Dance, who together have created some of the most intelligent, imaginative, and unpredictable dance music I’ve heard in a long time.

Where are you originally from?
Castle Donington, home of rock.

So how did you guys form?
Errr…. Something went horribly wrong.

What/who influences your music?
For Starters, Nostradamas, Michel Gondry and each other, as well as labels like 4AD, Ed Banger, Kitsune, Sub Pop, Modular, Tigerbeat 6 and Stones Throw. Though sometimes we find it easier to shut our eyes and ears and make up what’s around us.

So what do you outcasts enjoy doing with your spare time when you’re not playing music?
We like to switch the lights out and pretend we’re somewhere else. And when we are somewhere else we make rafts, write crude poetry and throw paper airplanes into vast open spaces.

Right… Well, are there any plans to release anything in the near future?
We have our first single coming out on WOW records sometime around Christmas, but our EP is free and up for download on this website.
