SCISSOR SISTERS, 7:30PM, MAIN STAGE
Cameron says: Obviously the band everyone and their mama had hauled ass all the way too Coney Island to see, Scissor Sisters delivered an above-par performance, despite somewhat predictable and strangely amusing technical difficulties (which marred their fabulous comeback will-be-hit, “I Don’t Feel Like Dancing”). The set list seemed to have been sequenced to an “old song/new song/old song” motif, and while the crowd was a little slow to warm up to some tracks off the upcoming album Ta-Dah, old favorites like “Take Your Mama”, “Laura” and an end-set “Filthy/Gorgeous” got everyone whipped into a frenzy, the entire place morphing into the crazed gay dance party we all hoped the Sisters’ performance would garner.
Vocalatrixes Jake Shears and Ana Matronic were equal portions edge and mirth (while bearish multi-instrumentalist Babydaddy brought the girth, much to our pleasure), and when Jake took off his pants and simulated sex acts with Ana, well, that’s just what time it was (though might I say next time the lovely boy not wait until laundry day-we would have loved to see some tighties-whities). This felt like the band’s legitimate homecoming show, and I lapped up every second like a puppy left out in the sun-then asked for more. Thanks to the Sisters for capping off what may have been the Best Siren Fest Ever-until next years, ladies and gents…
