The Dolly Daggers

Words by Karley Sciortino

It’s not often a rock band sites 17th century romantic poets as their main source of artistic inspiration. The Dolly Daggers, however, look to the likes of Lord Byron to create their minimal yet electric sound.

Reduced to simply an organ (NOT a Hammond organ, contrary to popular belief), bass, and drums, this threesome makes more noise than one might think.

“We all sing harmonies,” explains organist Gwil. “So though it’s quite stripped down, the vocals fill out the sound quite a bit.”

In their spare time this trio gets their kicks from boozing it up around North London, reading the odd book of poetry, and listening to Elvis.

“I like booze a lot,” admits Gwil, “but other than that it’s mainly music for me.”

Having already released their first single entitled “Where Are The Saints?” on Traficante Records in January of 2006, The Dolly Daggers have begun to get the ball rolling. With plans on beginning to record their debut album in the near future, and their second single out early next year, this romantic group of misfits have a long road of drunken harmonizing ahead of them.
