SOULWAX graced North London last Friday at a club called Electrowerkz. My previous experiences of watching them live has always been complete carnage, I’ve always lost my top or at least a bit of memory. Radio Soulwax is an event – their relentless live electro lights show inspires inhibitions to melt. Tonight David and Stephan and the other two were here because of a series of gigs masterminded by the people at MySpace to treat fans to more intimate time at smaller venues.

For the uninitiated, Soulwax are a four piece from Ghent in Belgium who established themselves with seminal remixes on the EP Nite Versions, their first big UK album Much Against Everyones Advice launched them all the way back in 1998. This gig saw David and Stephen even took to the decks to treated us to a 2 Many DJs set. We even got a peek at their new film, Part Of The Weekend Never Dies - a little self indulgent some might say, but it’s impossible not to be completely won over by the unassuming Belgs who know how to perform like their lives depend on it – and this documentary has been hotly anticipated. The title music to the recently realised film POTWND featuring Riton made the room explode and the usual head banging, shirt ripping and eyeball popping ensued. Watching clips from the film, do you recognise yourself from a particularly insalubrious night out? Of course you do.
