As fickle as the entertainment industry is, there are some universal truths out there that can’t be challenged- one of which we’re going to discuss today. Justice, and Justice’s live sets, will blow your mind whether you like it or not (aka are totally ‘over’ them). I still get chills down my spine when I hear Phantom Pt. II (and even more when we hear the Soulwax remix, as it basically is an excuse to double the length of the track) because I flash back to their Terminal 5 gig. Part of what is so incredible about X and G’s live set isn’t just the lazer bass boomin’ audio and snazzy light show. It’s the crowd and how they process their delerium- be it screaming, whipping off one’s top, or hopping on a stranger’s back to get closer to boys.
That being said, the prospect of a Justice show SITTING DOWN whilst stuffing our faces with popcorn and mixing smuggled booze with soda from the snack bar- is heaven. Having your hair blown back by digital surround sound minus the underage kids sporting slotted Kanye sunglasses clawing at your shirt and panting in your ear is a plus.
Now you too can experience this anywhere, because Ed Banger has teamed up with Romain Gavras and So-me and mashed up the best of their world-wide footage for a live dvd and cd release entitled A Cross the Universe. The NYC premiere is this Thursday October 30th, and we’re giving away a pair of passes. All you have to do is email abbey@supmag.com ASAP and we’ll take it from there. Everyone else will have to wait for the December 9th release to watch it from the comfort of your own couch. Crowd surfing optional.
