Vinyl Contest: Dan Auerbach

In this digital age there are exponential ways to learn about new music. After all is said and done (and we’ve waded through the press releases cluttering our inbox) one of the most effective methods is via text. No matter what insane hour the message comes through more likely than not we’re gonna pick up the phone. Needless to say when one of our fave writers texted “THE NEW DAN AUERBACH TRACKS ARE THE SEXXXXX” at 3 in the morning we were intrigued. Impressed with the cojones of the writer and succumbing to his enthusiasm we dug deeper and decided yes, the new songs on his release Keep It Hid are indeed the sex.

Now this heat-seeking debut is actually a side project from Mr. Auerbach’s other incarnation as half of Akron bad boy duo the Black Keys. Don’t get it twisted- Keep It Hid (which interestingly enough was recorded alongside Attack and Release) flexes a more soulful and introspective muscle. This time around it’s a family affair with an organic and spontaneous sound. Don’t worry- Auerbach’s trademark live, raw spirit remains. ‘Sup of course simply had to share the magic, and is giving away vinyl (!) copies of Dan’s new album which just dropped on Nonesuch Records. All you have to do is a) check out this video of his duet with his uncle on “Trouble Weighs a Ton” and b) email abbey@supmag.com with the answer to this: If you had a band (hell, maybe you already do), which family member would you recruit and why?
