We’re not usually one for novelty Christmas number hits. For us in the UK, the season usually means having to bear whatever ballad-wielding, stage school brat Simon Cowell has foisted upon us. But this is one Christmas record we’re down with. Fucked Up have taken Band Aid’s classic Do They Know It’s Christmas?, and with the help of their friends like GZA, Yo La Tengo, Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), Bob Mould (Husker Du), Tegan & Sara and Kyp Malone (TV on the Radio) have given it a bit more bite than Bob Geldof could ever squeeze out of Bono and co.
Still not convinced? Ah, come on, it’s for charity, with 100 per cent of the sales going to Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, DTES Power of Women Group and Sisters in Spirit.
It’s exactly what baby Jesus would have wanted. Except with more metal and swearing.
