Public Assembly, Brooklyn

Sleigh Bells are, by even Brooklyn terms, a new band. However Derek and Alexis are far from neophytes when it comes to pop, and in their current incarnation this duo has hit it out of the park. ‘SUP caught their 5th gig on a weeknight and it took us a good 24 hours to catch our breath. It was real, and it was rad.
How to describe their sound? Far be it from me to resort to using other bands to describe sound as fresh and energized as this, but if you put a gun to my head I’d say: Run DMC meets Blondie on a tarmac as a jet takes off, then they all go to the beach and surf as the sun sets à la Point Break. Perhaps later they roll to L’Trimm’s house where they take turns braiding hair and having pillow fights, and the police are called when things get out of hand. Pillows are weapons, yo. So yeah take that- screaming jets, Debbie Harry cooing, sunsets on the beach, my Adidas and police sirens. That’s a lot of noise for 2 people. It works.
