‘SUP leapt at the chance (knocking over chairs and stepping on a cat in the process) when offered an interview with the legendary Ari Up from the Slits. What better place than the Brooklyn Dumpster Pools – a DIY establishment in Gowanus that has yet to open to the public – to sit down with a punk icon on a late summer afternoon. What we didn’t bank on was the mega-intense flood of information that would come out of a single conversation. In the end we stumbled out onto the sidewalk with a full tape recorder, Ari’s contact info and an open invite to crash with her in Kingston. Yeah. So while our writer continues to transcribe the best interview EVER, here is a sliver regarding the Cut album cover, Slits tradition style, and dinosaurs.
The Slits’ new album (their first in 28 years), Trapped Animal, is available now on Narnack Records.
