Bridezilla, “Western Front”

We went absolutely mental for Bridezilla last year, when we by chance caught them opening for the Drones in Brooklyn and playing ATP at Kutcher’s Country Club in the Catskills. We even nostalgically bought a CD copy of their debut EP, Bridezilla, from their little merch table directly after their performance (practically the highest compliment one can bestow upon a band, right?). We were rapidly swept under its spell, and not only because it sounds like what would happen if the entire cast of The Craft used their deviant magical powers to form a band instead of turning their hair different colors and beaching whales.

Bridezilla have just released the video for their new single, “Western Front”, and it’s luckily more of the same: dark, crystalline vocals almost-but-not-quite oppressed by heavy violins and cymbal crashes. It’s just familiar enough to be immediately pleasing but foreign enough to be immediately interesting. “Western Front” is off of Bridezilla’s debut album, The First Dance, out now on Inertia Recordings. We wouldn’t say it’s optimal for interpretive dance, though.
