One of our favorite local Brooklyn bands right now is Hooray for Earth, the dreamy quartet of Gary Benacquista, Joseph Ciampini, Chris Principe and Noel Heroux. In the past year, H4E have completely blossomed from playing lo-fi indie rock into purveying psychedelic power pop unlike any we’ve heard in a long time.

Their excellent new EP, Momo, leads off with “Surrounded by Your Friends”, a driving, snyth-laden track that comes off like a less trippy version of the Flaming Lips had they grown up in the chillwave era. It’s a fantastic slice of summery fuzz-pop, and we’ve just gotten our hands on a remix of the song by Brooklyn’s Twin Shadow, who uses his own keyboard skills to create writhing, squealing synthlines, while ghostly, distorted vocals replace the original version’s Beach Boys-like four-part harmonies. Oh, and why not throw in a sax solo while you’re at it? Whatever, Twin Shadow. You da man.
