Mixtape: Oh No Ono

It wasn’t too long ago that the depth of my Danish music comprehension ranged from Mew to the Raveonettes, Toy-Box, Efterklang, Under Byen, WhoMadeWho, and not much else. That is, of course, until Oh No Ono’s amazing new album Eggs hit my stereo. Eggs sounds like a lot of things. Falling down the rabbit hole. Landing on your head in a Bosch triptych. Being revived by a chorus of angels unleashing anthemic power chords… and a hard rock howl or two.

In any case, Malthe, Aske, Nis, Kristoffer and Nicolai were kind enough to grant ‘SUP the exclusive on this mixtape. As you can see from the playlist (Gary Numan! Owen Pallet! Kate Bush! Lightening Bolt!), their sensibility of cool is just as tweaked out as ‘SUP’s. Frankly gentlemen you had us at “Hello.”

We were lucky enough to make it into Oh No Ono’s first ever NYC gigs, and can’t stress enough how the band takes it into another dimension with their live set. The best surprise was just how amped up the songs get – and as a result the audience does too. Think along the lines of the second half of “Live and Let Die” and less singing-Kula-Shaker-underwater. Check “The Wave Ballet” live from Union Hall in Brooklyn.
