'89 CUBS ///
Dear Sir or Madam:
The '89 Cubs are Matt Baum, Dan Brennan and Ryan Fox. Dan and Ryan met as shit-pants 10-year-olds in Nebraska sitting next to each other in the little league batting order and 15 years later started a band together. Our rock and roll dads taught us how to yell & play guitars. As the Cubs, the Omaha-born band has been playing together for a little over 2 years.
You may ask, "Why The '89 Cubs?" In 1989, Dan and Ryan spent every summer afternoon going to the 7-11, playing Nintendo, and watching Cubs baseball on WGN. It was the development of a lifelong friendship. As some sports fans may know, in'89 the Cubs nearly made it to the World Series, but lost to the Giants in the playoffs. They blew it in true Cubs fashion. In our life experiences, we feel like we can relate to the Cubs. Almost achieving our dreams, but not quite, or maybe just an hour late. So, we ask, "Why not The '89 Cubs?" It fits perfectly into our lives.
We recorded our record, There Are
Giants in the Earth in several locations including Artery Recording Studios, our friend Steve's house, libraries, Ryan's basement, women's restrooms, etc. It was mixed by the wizard, A.J. Mogis in Lincoln, NE at Presto! Studios while (daily) we ate Oso Burritos for lunch, and Yia Yia's Pizza for dinner, which is, arguably, the best pizza ever. Our friend Ezra put it out on his label, Slowdance.
Records. We just got off a six-week tour with our friends, The Good Life, and Neva Dinova. It was a blast. What a bunch of fantastic mutherfuckers.
We hope that this has given you a brief overview of our band, inspiring you to buy our record. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Matt Baum: drums, samples, vocals, emcee
Dan Brennan: bass, vocals, faders
Ryan Fox: guitars, vocals, keyboard, woodwinds, drums

'Sup says:
Ok...hold up. We have a few questions. First, your website is on MySpace? For real? That's so 2003. And you play sports? That's pretty interesting actually. We have yet to meet indie boys that could play sports. You, my friends, are what we call in New York an anomaly. Congrats.
How we met '89 Cubs:
We met Dan (the soundman) before we met his group, '89 Cubs when he was on the road with Cursive doing sound. We liked him okay and our friend liked him real okay, so we figured we'd check out Dan's band. Considering they're from Omaha, they had to be pretty good, right? Is Omaha so the new Seattle or what? And guess what? The '89 Cubs are okay. Fuck. They're uber-okay! ///
