BLACK LEOTARD FRONT ///

Black Leotard Front is the collaborative venture of three independent artists: Delia Gonzalez, Gavin Russom and Christian Holstad. We are committed to the expression of Freedom through the metaphor of Dance. This includes performances and videos of Dances, as well as sculpture, video photography, and music related or about Dance. Functioning as a communal social unit we are involved in all the facets of the performative entity so much of the physical artwork comes in the form of costumes, sets, props, environments, sounds, lighting and linguistic invention. Performances ride a fine but exciting line between choreography and improvisation and seek to channel an ecstatic energy source into movement.

Past Dances include "2 for the road" a leather clad narrative of the life of a biker.

"Crystal Swans" a fusion of ballet and oriental movements, and "A Terrible, Terrible Accident" which involves no dancing. Black Leotard Front is an outgrowth from an earlier body of work in Dance involving the same individuals centered in New York City, the Fancy Pantz School of Dance. Though early Black Leotard Front Performances (2000-2003) were also centered in New York, our work in the past two years has focused on the international stage. This began with a four country tour encompassing Poland, Germany, France and Switzerland; "Eurotard Live", and has continued throughout 2004 with performances in Zurich and Tokyo. Our most recent project has been teaming up with the production team DFA to produce the Dance floor monster "Casual Friday", to be released this fall. A major retrospective of Black Leotard Front's work entitled "Paris is Burning Man" is slated for later this year. The show will likely include videos of past performances as well as many physical objects including ballet shoes and music box dancers made from plastic bags, machine guns, actual stretch limosines made of spandex, banner,
balloons, hand drawn blotter acid,
motorcycle outfits and strobe lights.

Black Leotard Front is represented by the Daniel Reich Gallery and more information, including images, can be found at the gallery's website: www.danielreichgallery.com

How we met Black Leotard Front:
We heard an unmastered Black Leotard Front track from our friend, James "The Mixtape King" at DFA one night when we were on mushrooms and smoking blunts, and although we felt like getting up and freaking - let's be realistic here - we were smoking weed, not drinking Sparks. ///
