DEAD DISCO
WORDS: MARISA BRICKMAN
JUNE 13, 2007
After a few successful singles on Manchester label High Voltage last year, the all-girl Dead Disco were scooped up by 679 Recordings (home to bands like Mystery Jets and the Streets).
They've been gigging around the UK, and quietly writing more songs betwen their home in Leeds the sweet LA pad of their producer Greg Kurstin. When you check out Dead Disco's tunes, you can imagine them in Los Angeles or at least on the West Coast -- between the emo and the pop -- with alll the Hot Topic and flashy trainers they could ever hope for...
The girls' personal style is one that we've been admiring for quite a long time here at 'SUP. They always looked decked out from head-to-toe and almost never leave the house without full-on war paint and perfect hair. Once they crashed at our house and we couldn't believe how stylish they looked - even in their pajamas. No joke! Lucy's had these amazing black thermal Pjs - a matching top and bottom with neon rocket ships and planets - AMAZING!
Dead Disco's latest video doesn't fail to disappoint. We can tell these girls finding their way and establishing their signature sound (we like to think its a little like Fall Out Boy fronted by Gwen Stefani). With a bit of time, some bad-assness and maybe a teeny ounce of rage - we can see these girls becoming role models for every teenage girl and pin-ups for every horny boy (not just teenage ones either - they are hot!).
Check out the new video for "You're Out". The single is out now on itunes and on CD / 7-inch on 9 July (679 Recordings).
RIGHT - now for the interview...
Describe your personal style.
Well, Lucy's style icon is Billy Idol, Marie wants to look Japanese and Victoria likes anything that involves platform shoes!
Who has the best outfit in "You're Out"?
Hmm, that's a tough one... possibly Lucy to the completely silver trainers!
Who took the longest in wardrobe?
We probably all took about the same, although Victoria's hair probably took the longest as she had loads of extensions glued in [which we think looks amazing!].
What's the best thing about making a video?"
Free clothes! And having lots of random people getting their arms painted to be our 'helping hands'.
The worst?
The hardest thing was probably all trying to climb through the wires without falling over or catapultting them into each other's faces.
What are you most looking forward to this summer?
Recording our debut album in Los Angeles!
