WIRE
FRIDAY, MAY 30 2008
SOUTH STREET SEAPORT, NYC
WORDS: CAMERON COOK

File Wire under one of those legendary bands we just never had the opportunity to see live, until they randomly showed up on our newly christened summer ’08 concert itinerary. We’d heard the whispers, of course: one of the best shows you’ll ever see, David Bowie never misses them when they’re in town, etc, and while the show didn’t enter our fabled Best Concerts of All Time pantheon, it was the perfect kick start to our summer.

Slurping giant cups of beer on the boardwalk (we won’t tell you where we got them, it’s a secret) we huddled near the stage with some friends and prepared to have our minds blown. The hits slowly trickled into the set, and though the utter absence of “Three Girl Rhumba” pretty much irreparably broke our hearts, it was made up for with a brilliant, brilliant version of “The 15th”, possibly our favorite song from that era in post-punk minimalism, and quite possibly a premature live music highlight of the summer.
